Innovation Programme Manager

Location – Yorkshire/hybrid

£50k-£70k depending on experience

A thriving and ambitious consultancy of circa 100+ staff are seeking a talented individual for the role of Innovation Project Manager within their Growth and Strategy team        

The aim of this role is to work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and propose new technical and commercial solutions to business challenges, and to support the technical aspects of their delivery as innovation projects.  Success will be demonstrated by the delivery of projects with tangible benefits that are then incorporated into business-as-usual activity, and by the sharing of knowledge on the strengths and weaknesses of solutions not progressed.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Establish a productive working relationship with strategic, asset delivery and operational colleagues to identify business risks and innovation opportunities.
  • Manage an external personal network in order to maintain a working knowledge of developing research and emerging solutions and feed this intelligence back into the business. 
  • Work with, and challenge, internal and external parties to develop a pipeline of high-quality innovation projects.
  • Contribute to prioritisation of projects into the ongoing innovation investment programme. Aiming to build upon existing momentum, but equally, challenge and terminate live projects when technical outcomes begin to look unlikely.
  • Ensure all preparatory documentation is in place prior to project kick-off. Support the Innovation Project Managers throughout the project delivery cycle, providing technical input to the projects and ensuring appropriate internal and external expertise is engaged.
  • Work with internal colleagues to smooth the transition of successful projects through to business-as-usual implementation.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:

Essential:

  • **** A good understanding of the UK water industry challenges and priorities. ****
  • A degree in a STEM subject and/or substantial experience gained in a relevant technical role.
  • The ability to apply this technical knowledge and experience to critically evaluate potential solutions.
  • The ability to think creatively in contributing to the development of asset management strategies, and comfortable in challenging and questioning perceived norms.
  • The ability to develop and maintain diverse and effective internal and external relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within a project delivery environment.
  • Experience in a commercially orientated and / or regulated environment.
  • Experience of supporting and embedding change, with the ability to influence and drive a culture of innovation.
