Intermediate/Senior Commercial Engineer

Commercial Engineering is where we optimise decisions on need, scope, cost and risk of an investment portfolio. This typically comprises project reviews to extract and maintain commercial savings through a project lifespan. This can include challenges to the need and solution, standards and specifications or batching projects to reveal cost savings, in additional to identifying any risks, either commercial or process, and managing said risk appropriately. The current vacancy is within the water sector of our business.

The role of Intermediate/Senior Commercial Engineer will typically include the following duties:

  • Challenging the need and solution (typically at concept and outline design stage)
  • Asset standard and specification review and challenge with a commercial understanding
  • Risk management – where opportunities are identified, what risk manifests and how to manage that risk
  • Estimating and benchmarking
  • Client liaison & report compilation
  • Capex, Opex and Totex review

The ideal candidate

  • Will have an engineering background ideally Civil or MEICA.
  • Must have water experience
  • Some experience of understanding the cost of construction – so involvement in proposals, estimates, bids
  • Preferably chartered and be experienced in the water industry.
  • Any experience of estimating within the water industry will be looked at favourably
  • Flexible / adaptable
  • Must come across well, presentable to clients.
  • Wanting a new challenge 

As you might expect, some time will be required in client offices but hybrid working is in place.
