Senior Estimator
We are working with a growing Regional Civil Engineering Contractor, seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Estimator join their successful operations in Bristol. The appointed candidate will join a highly professional work winning team in the preparation of tenders for a wide portfolio of civil engineering projects including highways, energy, development infrastructure and earthworks schemes with values in the range £1m – £60m.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with clients, designers, subcontractors and suppliers
- Receive, review and disseminate tender documentation
- Maintain a high level of communication and liaison with the wider bid team to help develop bid strategy
- Assist with the preparation of sub-contract and material enquiries and manage the receipt of quotations in a timely manner to achieve competitive market rates
- Where required produce accurate take-offs using appropriate software. If outsourced externally, coordinate information issue and ensure take off completed to the required standard and accuracy
- Price bills/schedules analytically from first principles and produce quote comparisons using estimating software. Identify risks and opportunities and assess the potential impact on the project together with any necessary qualifications
- Attend workshops and meetings on behalf of the Company
- Maintain up-to-date market knowledge of labour, plant, materials and sub-contractors
- Liaise with Subcontractors, Pre-Construction and Delivery teams to assess programme requirements
- Work effectively with other members of the estimating department and wider business in order to achieve the most effective and competitive solutions including alternative designs
- Present estimate for review and final settlement by the due date
- On secured projects prepare and deliver tender information for handover to the contract team
QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES
- A strong track record of success preparing civil engineering and highways infrastructure tenders
- An excellent working knowledge of the main standard forms of construction contract/subcontract – particularly NEC3/4
- Excellent interpersonal, communicative, listening, and negotiation skills
- Ability to use own initiative as well as working effectively as part of a team
- Excellent oral and written skills including presentations and the ability to negotiate with Employers/Clients, external stakeholders, and supply chain partners
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise
- Resilience when working to fixed deadlines
- Computer literate with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- A Degree in Civil Engineering would be welcomed but not essential
- Be MICE qualified, or demonstrate a commitment to work towards chartership
- Full driving licence
