Meet Our Managing Consultant Sam!

This week we want to introduce you to our Managing Consultant Sam Smith. Sam has worked for Flagship for 4 years now, and he is the lead for our northern region.
We asked Sam some questions about his role at Flagship and what his views are on the current market. Read below what Sam had to say!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Flagship?

I joined Flagship after graduating from university over four years ago now. During that time I have progressed through the business, and I have recently been given the opportunity to launch our Northern office in Lancaster. I grew up in the North-West, so this was a move that I was happy to make, and the challenge of moving the business forward in this new area is very exciting.

What roles do you recruit for and with what sort of clients?

I tend to specialise in Quantity Surveying, Project Management, and Procurement recruitment. My clients are primarily construction consultancies which range from large multi-national firms to local independent businesses.

What is your view on the market at the moment?

The market seems to have recovered well after the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic and is certainly very busy from an employer’s perspective. We have several vacancies for Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, and Building Surveyors in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, and Huddersfield to name a few!

What advice would you give a jobseeker looking for work?

Keep track of your applications, choose a well-known, specialist agency and stick with them. There is nothing worse that your CV going out to every single company without your knowledge. If you work with a well-respected recruiter, they will be able to represent you in the best possible way.

What makes Flagship stand out in a crowded industry such as recruitment?

I get asked this a lot when I am speaking to candidates, clients, or friends and family about Flagship. We recruit quantity surveyors, project managers and building surveyors for construction firms. Keeping it simple allows us to focus on our candidates and clients and the strength of our relationships is what makes us stand out. Flagship is almost ten years old and many of our clients have been with us since day one.

What do you get up to outside of work?

My main hobbies are fell running, hiking, sailing, paddle-boarding, and climbing. Anything in the mountains or on a lake really. I like socialising with friends, and I also enjoy watching sport such as football, rugby, sailing and tennis.
